Kyiv was hit by a new wave of missile and drone attacks from Russia on Sunday, resulting in at least one death and 13 injuries, as reported by Ukrainian officials. These attacks followed Ukraine’s targeting of Russian logistics facilities and warehouses a day earlier.
The Ukrainian capital was rocked by explosions shortly after air-raid alerts signaled the approach of ballistic missiles. Authorities reported that six districts across Kyiv were impacted by the strikes. In the Solomianskyi district, an apartment building sustained damage, while fires were sparked at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Other attacks targeted a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment complex in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential site.
In addition to the events in Kyiv, a Russian drone strike in the central Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in one fatality. On the Russian front, officials confirmed one death in the Kursk region following an attack by Ukrainian forces.
The escalation in violence comes after Ukrainian drones targeted logistical sites in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. According to Ukrainian reports, these sites were connected to the supply chain for components used in drone manufacturing and navigation systems. Over recent months, Ukraine has ramped up long-range strikes on Russian territory, aiming at infrastructure and energy facilities as a countermeasure to the relentless Russian bombardments that have persisted since the conflict began in 2022.
Domestically, Ukraine is grappling with political unrest following a recent government reshuffle. Thousands have gathered in multiple cities for a third day of protests against the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. This upheaval has fueled speculation about potential broader changes within the country’s military leadership.
