In recent diplomatic engagements, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, reached out to key political figures in Lebanon and Mali. Through separate telephone conversations, he discussed the state of bilateral relations and regional issues with Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri and Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop, highlighting Qatar’s active role in international diplomacy.
During his dialogue with Lebanon’s deputy prime minister, Dr. Al Khulaifi focused on the enduring ties between Qatar and Lebanon and expressed grave concern over the ongoing situation in Lebanon. He condemned the persistent Israeli military actions against Lebanese territory, including the expansion of operations in the southern region and attacks that have put civilian lives at risk. Al Khulaifi characterized these acts as violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and breaches of international law, warning they pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Al Khulaifi called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to respect the ceasefire agreement. He emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel. Furthermore, he appealed to the international community to intervene decisively to halt these violations and to safeguard Lebanon’s territorial integrity. His statements reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast support for Lebanon and its citizens amidst the crisis.
In a separate conversation with Mali’s foreign minister, the Qatari official explored avenues for enhancing cooperation between the two nations. They exchanged views on the current conditions in the African Sahel, a region facing significant challenges. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar’s solidarity with Mali, expressing support for the country’s efforts to ensure security and stability, as well as the safety of its people.
